Zanaflex (Tizanidine Hydrochloride) is available as either a capsule or a tablet. Tablets are available in strengths of 2 milligrams or 4 milligrams. The 2 milligram Zanaflex tablet is blue, while the 4 milligram tablet of this medication is white. Zanaflex (Tizanidine Hydrochloride) is also available as a capsule. The 4 milligram capsules are blue and white, while the 2 milligram capsules are solid blue. Zanaflex (Tizanidine Hydrochloride) is also available in light blue, six milligram capsules. Zanaflex (Tizanidine Hydrochloride) is successful in treating spasticity for the short term. Spasticity is a condition in which the muscles of the body become stiff and rigid, thereby making ordinary movements more and more difficult. These prescription drugs block the nerve cells that control muscle movement from firing too frequently.

When you begin taking Zanaflex (Tizanidine Hydrochloride), 4 milligrams should be taken every six to eight hours, with no more than 3 doses in a 24 hour period. For maximum effects of the muscle relaxant, the dosage of Zanaflex should gradually be increased, under supervision of your physician, from two to four milligrams. No more than 36 milligrams of Zanaflex (Tizanidine Hydrochloride) should be taken each day. Patients who have kidney ailments should be prescribed lesser doses of Zanaflex (Tizanidine Hydrochloride).
